The wife of a Navy reservist, a former Tampa woman, was sentenced to life in prison today after pleading guilty to murder in the death of her husband, who was shot by her then-teenage lover and his friend. Monique Berkley, 27, entered the plea in Wake County Superior Court in an agreement with prosecutors to avoid the death penalty. The former Monique Wheeler attended the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, where she was a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist who made the honor roll a dozen times and planned to study pre-med and psychology at the University of Florida.
