Normally a hotbed for hockey and concerts, the St. Pete Times Forum is undergoing a transformation that will be all about basketball. The 12 men's Southeastern Conference college basketball teams and their fans have started arriving for the SEC tournament, which will begin on Thursday at the facility. Today's practices are closed to the public. Ticket books for all sessions are $300 and available at www.secsports.com. Single-session tickets are $50 each (plus any applicable fees) and can be purchased at the box office or any Ticketmaster outlet by calling 1-800-745-3000 or by logging on to www.secsports.com. At last year's SEC men's basketball tournament, there was never a dull moment. It blew into Atlanta, and Atlanta blew right back. A tornado took off part of the Georgia Dome roof at one point, and the whole thing was moved to Georgia Tech's arena, where Georgia, of all teams, sprang upset after upset to win the tourney and crash the NCAA get-together that followed. Now the Southeastern Conference Tournament comes to Tampa's St. Pete Times Forum. Dull moments might outnumber fans at the Forum this week. It'll be like a four-day Lightning game. ...more

When last we heard from the Lingerie Football League, it was enmeshed in controversy during Super Bowl week, and its premier event – the Lingerie Bowl – was canceled. Now the organization and its scantily clad female athletes are back. The Tampa Bay Breeze, one of 10 teams in the league, will play a four-game schedule this fall that includes two home games at the St. Pete Times Forum, according to a news release. ...more
