Is it now okay to publish photos of the draped coffins of our dead sons and daughters killed defending freedom around the world? Yes. Parents must give consent before the photos are allowed, however those caskets represent much more than the dead sons and daughters of those parents giving their consent. ...more

In yesterday's paper a writer wrote that he hopes that President Obama fails because, "Thinking that we can stimulate the economy by bigger government and more government programs is absurd and never worked." This is a rather startling, and I believe, unsubstantiated statement. ...more

Reading what's on everyone's mind in various media takes me back to my childhood, where I enjoyed some wonderful experiences with my grandfather. He was an astute businessman and was affectionately known to his nine children as "the boss." He arrived in the Midwest from Ellis Island in the late 1800s and began to build his family's future, homesteading on a 160-acre Nebraska farm. His hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, shrewd business practices and persistence resulted in ownership of several farms and numerous bank accounts. ...more

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter regarding Prisoners of War-Missing in Action Recognition Day. We should honor the men and women who served and sacrificed to keep our America free, and to salute the families of the missing who continue to keep the candle of hope alive today. There are too many of our people who are missing and unaccounted for from the wars which our nation has been involved in, going back as far as World War II. They are our military and civilians who are our mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. A lot of these wars ended a long time ago but we still should pause and remember their sacrifices. I cannot imagine how I would feel if I lost my husband or family member for this length of time, days, months and yes, even decades. They deserve an answer. ...more
