SEBRING — It wasn't like finding a horse's head at the foot of the bed, like in "The Godfather" movie, but finding a dead deer on the hood of your mom's car parked in your driveway could be just as unnerving. "Weird," was how Sebring Police Lt. Bruce Crum put it Monday. Next to the deer's body and held down by a silver dollar was a poem Sunday morning on a torn slip of paper. The lyrics were from the song "Aenima" by an alternative metal rock band called "Tool." The police were called at 10:14 a.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of Myrtle Avenue, in Sebring. The complainant, a 21-year-old woman, told police that she and her boyfriend had returned home at about 3 a.m. Sunday and didn't see any deer then. ...more

LAST APPEARANCE/TITLES: 2006/5 (1929, 1931, 1933, 1935, 1936) PLAYERS: Doug Letson, Jr.; Charlie Martin, Jr.; Charles Silverfield, So.; Cory Castillo, Sr.; Carter Ilgenfritz, Sr. OUTLOOK: The Panthers are the most experienced county team, as all five golfers have played at the state tournament before; Letson, Martin, Castillo and Ilgenfritz were members of last year's state team, while Silverfield, a transfer from Berkeley Prep, was an individual state qualifier last season. Consistency has been one of the biggest keys for success for this team, which is led by Letson, who finished as the individual runner-up at both the district and region tournaments. Plant finished eighth out of 16 teams in last year's field, but Mike James' squad could do much better this time. ...more
