In response to "College grants favor wealthy" (Front page, May 10): I am a junior in high school, living in the Westchase community, working just as hard as anyone else to obtain a grant from Bright Futures. If receiving this scholarship was based on family income, I would have it covered. However, course grades, test scores and community service hours determine the amount that Bright Futures grants students. ...more

I am sending a thank you to those who helped with the Chalk Contest that was held at the Highlands Art League on May 2, to award a scholarship to the Kids Kamp. Anne Watson was the glue that held it together when I had to go out of town and Linda Schneider, my co-worker became ill. Pamela Jay Paralikis, Mary Boutellier and Jan Augenstein jumped in to help make it a success for the children. Thank you ladies for your genuine enthusiasm in promoting art for our children. eto running back Jeremy Deering's scholarship offers are well into double digits. Deering received his 12th on Friday. The University of Illinois is the latest Division I program to make him an offer. Illinois becomes the fourth Big Ten school vying for Deering. The others are Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue. Other schools that have offered scholarships include Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse and UCF.
