Saturday's Pet Adoption Expo at the Florida State Fairgrounds found new homes for 406 animals, officials said. Visitors snapped up the 16 dogs and 10 cats from Hillsborough County Animal Services. Other animals were brought to the expo by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and various other rescue groups, including Little Miracles Rabbit Rescue and Sir Snuffy's Hedgehog Sanctuary, both of which had animals who found new homes, said animal services spokeswoman Marti Ryan. ...more

Reference is made to the Sept. 12 article in which the sheriff's attorney, Mike Durham, described the leader of a controversial evidence audit as "a disgruntled former employee." Well, you missed it. The Heartland Idol contest is over for this year, and the ones of you who didn't make it down to the Circle to watch have no idea what great entertainment you missed. I am sure there are some who would like to hang the judges up by their toe nails for the way the judging went. But I have to admit I was rooting for Christopher Allen the whole time. Christopher had the whole package: voice, poise, and super stage presence. I also have to give it to Shawn Knowles for his stage presence. To me that is what entertainment is all about, not just being able to sing. No matter how great a voice a person has if the person bores me they have lost me. ...more
