SEBRING — The last time the Sebring boys basketball team faced DeSoto, the Blue Streaks drove home from Arcadia with a 23-point loss hanging over their heads. During the rematch on Thursday night, however, there was plenty more hanging in the balance. Sam Robinson scored 23 points and Javier Medina added 10 more as Sebring led the entire way and claimed at least a tie for the second seed for the Class 4A-District 10 tournament with a 57-42 victory over the Bulldogs. The Streaks could find themselves in a three-way tie for first-place in district if Hardee defeated DeSoto on Friday night (results were not available as of press time). But whatever the case, Sebring took care of business when it needed to, winning crucial games over Palmetto on Tuesday (81-64) and DeSoto on Thursday to close out district play. ...more

SEBRING –– Using its superior height and athleticism, the Sebring boys basketball team opened the season with a convincing 50-36 win over Sonrise Christian Academy in the Pre-Season Classic on Tuesday night. Junior guard Chris Grubb led the way with seven assists, three steals and a game-high 17 points. "Chris worked very hard on his game over the summer and has really improved," said Blue Streak coach Princeton Harris. "He did a good job of driving to the basket, and he also got some good looks from the outside in our offensive sets. "It's good to get that first win, but there are a number of things that we need to work on to get better as a team." ...more

LAKE PLACID –– After rallying for an exciting come-from-behind win against Frostproof in last Thursday's Class 3A-District 10 championship, the Lake Placid volleyball team hopes to keep the good times rolling against John Carroll (Fort Pierce) in tonight's regional quarterfinal. The district championship win improved the Green Dragons to an impressive 16-3 overall, and they're brimming with confidence heading into tonight's tilt with the Golden Rams.
