The campaign that had increasingly seemed more uncivil war than election run-up is finally behind us. But the post-mortems and Monday-morning quarterbacking are not likely to end even on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20. And Sarah Palin speculation, to be sure, will become a national pastime until she finally signs on with Fox News. As a result, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will continue to look ever more competent and mature beyond his years. ...more

WASHINGTON - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday she hopes Congress can return this month to approve spending measures to stimulate the depressed economy. She said much depends on finding common ground with the soon-to-depart Bush administration, which more often than not has been at odds with the Democratic majority. ...more

What will an Obama administration and a Congress with increased Democratic majorities do? That's a relevant question, given the Democrats' leads in the polls. And it's a little hard to answer, given the financial crisis that has been raging and the recession that seems to be ahead. ...more

Anyone voting for Obama should think hard about the implications that will result from an election of this man to president. There is obviously going to be a super majority of Democrats in the House and in the Senate after this election. This will mean there is nothing to stop the Democrats from passing any and all bills and laws of their choice. The Republicans will not be able to even filibuster from the floor to delay passage of these items because of their minority status. It has been tossed around that there are 49-million people without health insurance, which is a tragedy, but can you imagine what it will do to the health care system? It is sometimes difficult to get an appointment or a bed in the hospital now. There has been no mention of building the hospitals and educating all the medical people conducive to accommodating that large a number of new patients. It would be overwhelming to the existing system and take years to accomplish a feat of that magnitude (by either party). Obama has stated that he wants to provide this health care now, not 10 years down the road. ...more

I disagree to some extent with your recent op-ed piece on Congressman Mahoney. Putting his sexual peccadilloes aside, Mr. Mahoney, who purports himself to be a blue dog conservative Democrat, voted in lock step with the party line of Nancy Pelosi and the rest of her far left cadre of liberal socialists. If you had researched Mr. Mahoney's voting record, you have found that he supported the billions in bailout legislation as well as just about every pork barrel project in sight. His voting record in no way could be considered conservative. ...more

Let's get something straight. The U.S. House of Representatives has been in Democratic hands for two years. The Democrats chair all committees; rule the roost. The latest Rasmussen tracking poll finds that 9 percent of the public thinks Congress is doing a good job. Fifty-two percent think Congress is doing a poor job. The leader of the House is Nancy Pelosi from San Francisco, the most politically strange city in America. Our congressman Tim Mahoney is part of that majority. That majority has failed to face the energy crisis, failed to act, improve health care, failed to act on Iraq and failed to fix Social Security. Their leadership is standing still. ...more
