I read the letters where the Constitution is used to make ones personal point, bent to fit their views. It is a good document in which our government should be run, but too many years have passed for it to now be absolute. If we want to go back to that time in history then we must remember that many of the writers owned slaves. There were indebted persons and a poor house in which to be jailed. Women of the time were only good to have children and keep the house. The writers could not have foreseen all the advances that have been made in our country; if they could some of the text might have been written differently. ...more

It would be hard for health care reform to be in worse shape. What were once lofty promises to curtail the excess of a soulless group of health insurance companies has turned into what is almost certainly going to be a bonanza for those very same companies. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trying desperately to salvage some aspect of the bill and even still it seems unlikely that any good will come from this "reform." ...more

It has become obvious to all that the "free market" is not free for people who need health care. Attention seniors: For the first time in history there will not be an increase in the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA). There may not be any for the next three years. That does not mean your Social Security benefit will stay the same, it will decrease! Your Medicare premium will increase from $96.40 to $104.20 in 2010 and to $120.20 in 2011. Your part D cost will probably also increase. But Congress voted themselves a big raise, between $4,700 and $5,300. ...more
