TAMPA PALMS - Almost $60,000 was presented to 32 nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and Rotary projects locally and internationally this morning, June 13, by the Rotary Club of New Tampa. The funds were raised through events, which included a pig roast, golf tournament and casino night, and the Happy Dollars fund, to which members donate money to share news at their weekly meetings. ...more

SEBRING — Sun 'n Lake Golf & Country Club is selling $250 covered tables to watch its July 5 fireworks event, and it's sponsoring a July 26 golf tournament. Megan L. Klootwyk, director of membership and marketing, said the money will go to the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce. Robert and Heide Miller of Cherokee Janitorial Service in Avon Park are donating a percentage of its revenues to the Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the Sebring chamber. And Shawn Marler of the Boy Scouts is planning a joint fundraiser with the chamber. TEMPLE TERRACE - The town is tagged as "A City for Living" and James Chambers has helped make it that way, Cheri Donohue says. That's why Donohue, director of the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce, and Helen Harper, her assistant, nominated Chambers for the fourth annual Fran Barford Public Service Award, which is sponsored by the Temple Terrace Woman's Club. Barford was a member of the club for more than 30 years and also served eight years as a Temple Terrace councilwoman and six years as the city's first female mayor. ...more

The Chiles Elementary leader was treated to a surprise assembly Thursday so her students could wish her farewell. Beaubien, who has lead Chiles for the past seven years, is leaving to become the district's supervisor of elementary education. ...more
