TEAMS PLANT WHERE: Class 2A state tournament, The Golf Club at Bridgewater, Lakeland WHEN: Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. start ROAD TO STATE: Shot 302 team total at Silver Dollar to win District 10 title; shot 315 team total at Fox Hollow to win Region 4 tournament. LAST APPEARANCE/TITLES: 2006/5 (1929, 1931, 1933, 1935, 1936) PLAYERS: Doug Letson, Jr.; Charlie Martin, Jr.; Charles Silverfield, So.; Cory Castillo, Sr.; Carter Ilgenfritz, Sr. OUTLOOK: The Panthers are the most experienced county team, as all five golfers have played at the state tournament before; Letson, Martin, Castillo and Ilgenfritz were members of last year's state team, while Silverfield, a transfer from Berkeley Prep, was an individual state qualifier last season. Consistency has been one of the biggest keys for success for this team, which is led by Letson, who finished as the individual runner-up at both the district and region tournaments. Plant finished eighth out of 16 teams in last year's field, but Mike James' squad could do much better this time. ...more
