The other day I watched a religious speech by Mitt Romney, candidate for president. He mentioned God so many times I lost count. He also credited God for giving us liberty, freedom and winning the Revolutionary War. As far as I know the good citizens and soldiers gave us all that. And government is derived from the governed, not God. He would like to see more religious icons in the public square. He actually spat out the word secular as if it were a disease. After reading the article about U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez and his efforts to raise money for the 2010 election, I have come up with a suggestion for him and all other politicians with the same problem. Why don't they just focus on doing a good job now. If they were to do the job of serving the people successfully, then they would be re-elected no matter how much money they have or don't have. All the millions they spend bombarding us with ads filled with lies, mud slinging and empty promises, could then be spent on more important things, like people. ...more
