As the result of dwindling advertising revenues, WFLA, Channel 8, plans to discontinue its 11 a.m. newscast at the end of May. Planes, jets, helicopters and daredevil stunts are wowing the crowd at this year's MacDill AirFest. Thousands of people were standing in line at 11:30 a.m. to enter the gates, which opened at 8 a.m. Overhead, pilots put on flying demonstrations. Welders were hard at work Wednesday installing a stainless steel piece of art called "Ceremonial Space" at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park in downtown Tampa near the new Tampa Bay History Center. The piece was created by artist Bob Haozous of Santa Fe, N.M., who is a member of the Warm Springs/Chiricahua Apache tribe. The artwork honors the people who once lived in this area. ...more
