I find it disheartening how people seem so distrusting of the government when it comes to health care, but love the idea of government intrusion into our daughters' bodies. Pro-abortion advocates want to use government to control what our daughters can and cannot do. I find this despicable. Abortion is a personal matter, not a decision that can be decided by sweeping laws. I want my daughter to be able to make her own decisions. No government official will tell her if she can or cannot have an abortion. To make matters worse, these same people who want government intervention into our daughters' wombs go into a fury when the government tries to make us healthier. ...more

Finally our local government is making common-sense decisions. The Tampa Sports Authority made a decision not to give the front-runner for the vacant executive director post a $10,000 stipend to help pay his mortgages. This man is already making a six-figure income and wanted help from the taxpayer. Two members of the three-member executive committee voted to not give him this money. Last Friday, the Pasco County Commission began reviewing the county's proposed budget for fiscal 2010. With the collapse of the Florida real estate-housing sector, on top of the nationwide economic slowdown, the county's projected revenue could fall about $37 million short of the planned spending in the $900 million-plus budget. Commissioners have received a list of proposed spending cuts meant to close the budget gap.
