David Penoyer picked up 31 votes during an unofficial recount today, but not enough to win a seat on the Temple Terrace City Council. Penoyer fell short by 53 votes to overtake Mary Jane Neale, who was elected to the board in November. The 36-year-old environmental engineer said he doesn't plan to pursue any further action to challenge the outcome of the race. ...more

It was a wild five hours for Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Buddy Johnson. He nearly got into a altercation with a television cameraman. He offered support, then condemnation for a voting equipment contractor that he researched and recommended that the county use. And as the county fell hours behind in tabulating votes for the 2008 general election, he heaped praise on his staff and offered strange reasons why they didn't deserve to be blamed, even partially, for the delay. ...more
