There are many patriotic American holidays but none is more special and personal than Veterans Day. I believe this is because our nation was born through sacrifices of those who answered the call of duty. We cannot see or talk to those whom have served and gone to heaven's gates but there are still many here and many to come that are just like the ones before. This call of duty is very special to Americans. Although there has been a terrible time when we fought each other, it has made us a better country for history is a learning process and we all fall short. We have never fought to take another country's land; on the contrary we have fought to protect the lives and land of others. The call of duty for this nation is a righteous one and has made our soldiers the best in the world. ...more

In Dale Gillis' letter he accuses Cal Thomas of scientific illiteracy and then tells us about predictions by NBC of an Arctic Ocean free of ice. NBC, that's a great source of unbiased info. Nearly five years ago, as ground was being broken on the Main Street Landing construction site, city officials at the time looked forward to March 2009. That's when, if all went as planned, the Community Redevelopment Agency would have happily presented a $1.25 million check to Gainesville-based developer Ken McGurn if the Mediterranean-styled commercial-residential development was significantly built out and half the units leased or sold. March 2009 has arrived, and McGurn met March 10 with City Council, which was acting in its role as CRA board. Instead of a grip-and-grin check presentation, the two sides were meeting to figure out what they might do to restore a now-strained business relationship and get the project moving again. ...more

Mr Lensis's letter defended Limbaugh's comment that he wants Obama to fail. I'm sorry Mr. Lensis, but no matter how you twist it, how you "rephrase" it, or how people wiggle it around, we all know what Rush said and what he meant. He wanted Obama's policies to fail — which can only mean that the U.S. would go into a depression! And contrary to what you said — I have listened to Rush. I first started listening years ago when he first hit the air waves. Being analytical in nature and a talk radio/news junkie it didn't take long before I noticed that Rush was not quite telling the whole story on many things. He routinely takes statements out of context to push his radical right-wing spin on things. The last straw for me was one lunch hour, on the noon day TV news, I watched a fellow make a statement about something in an interview. Less than an hour later, I heard Rush "quote" this same fellow. Rush left about half the fellow's statement out, which changed the whole meaning. I realized at that point I was being "conned" by Rush. ...more
