'Tis the season to be jolly - or grouse about what to call the season. By now, many people have made peace with the fact that we live in a society in which people holding any number of beliefs about the events of tomorrow, Dec. 25. Some people who celebrate the events at the center of the religious aspect of Dec. 25 but do it on different days. Others have a celebration that this year began Dec. 21 and run for eight nights. Others observe a holiday that begins Dec. 26 and ends Jan. 1. Some people observe Dec. 25, but the only spirit that moves them is ho-ho-ho and mistletoe. Kindergarten students from St. Mary's Episcopal Day School recently spread Christmas cheer to residents of At Home With Friends, performing a Nativity Pageant before a packed house. The children sang carols while presenting the story of the Christmas Miracle. The senior citizens were appreciative, and the kids were excited about sharing their presentation in festive attire. Officials at Farmworkers Self-Help Inc. will distribute toys and food baskets Wednesday to about 320 families served by the Tommytown-based agency. The organization will distribute the items Christmas Eve between 6 a.m. and noon at the Pasco County Fairgrounds on State Road 52 near Pasco High School. Farmworkers has administered the Christmas program for 25 years. Margarita Romo, executive director of the agency, said that all of the program's families will receive food today, but the food baskets aren't as full as in the past. ...more
