SEBRING — Sebring has another reason to dislike Red Devils. The Kathleen boys soccer team ended Sebring's historic run into the state playoffs on Thursday night, as the Red Devils knocked out the Blue Streaks' first-ever district-championship team with a 1-0 victory in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal on Firemen's Field. Hampered by an injury to leading scorer and senior Daniel Grimaldo, the Blue Streaks outshot the Red Devils but couldn't make the most of multiple scoring opportunities, ending the school's first home regional match on a sour note in front of a large and raucous crowd. "It's real emotional to lose like this," said junior Pedro Gori. "But we made history this year, and hopefully, it won't be the last of it." ...more

SEBRING — When Daniel Grimaldo walked onto Firemen's Field for the second half of Tuesday's Class 4A-District 10 semifinal match, the Sebring senior realized the jog from the locker room could very well be his last. "I knew what I had to do," Grimaldo said. "Everyone was telling me: 'Go to the goal.' "That's my job." Grimaldo scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half, breaking a first-half tie and leading the Sebring boys soccer team to a 5-3 victory over third-seeded Braden River. SEBRING – The Avon Park boys soccer team didn't walk off the field making excuses or blaming their season on anything but inexperience of soccer players who are finally learning to play as a team. "We played hard out there, especially in the second half," said Avon Park senior Sergio Durand. "This team was finally starting to gel and come together toward the end of the season. "If only we had a few more games to play." Those games – and the season – are over for the Red Devils after they fell to a more experienced Braden River squad 8-0 during Monday's Class 4A-District 10 tournament at Fireman's Field. ...more
