Alonso High senior baseball player Tyler Ding has verbally committed to the University of Tampa, Ravens coach Landy Faedo said Tuesday. Ding, Alonso's starting second baseman, had a huge junior season, hitting .476 with eight doubles, two home runs, 26 RBIs, 31 runs scored and 23 stolen bases for the Class 6A state champion Ravens. He earned Class 6A first-team all-state honors and was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team pick. ...more

Gaither High baseball player Drew Doty made the most of his trip out West earlier this month. Doty, a senior outfielder, recently was named to the 2009 All-Area Code Team. Doty, playing for the Oakland Athletics, went 4-for-5 with five walks, four runs, three RBIs and a stolen base during the event, according to his father, Rick. ...more
