Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian E. Corley previewed the new DS200 Optical Scan voting equipment for county poll workers during a workshop at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel on Tuesday morning. Corley and Deputy Supervisor of Elections Jim Endress let some 70 poll workers try out the new voting machines at the end of the workshop, where they were able to mark ballots and see how the new equipment works. ...more

A reasonable solution for counting the votes in Florida's premature primary was reached Saturday by a Democratic Party committee. Florida will be allowed to send all its delegates to the Democratic Convention, but each delegate gets only one-half of a vote. ...more

These infamous terms still leap into the mind when thinking of that race, not to mention the lingering conviction of a few that Al Gore, who had more popular support, was cheated out of the White House. The Legislature, with the support of Gov. Charlie Crist, last year forced counties like Pasco and Pinellas to scrap the touch-screen voting equipment they had just spent millions purchasing. Touch-screen voting was supposed to solve problems associated with punch-card balloting, which was supposedly the cause of the 2000 Bush-Gore presidential voting controversy in Florida. ...more

I voted in Florida's presidential primary, and I voted angry. I was angry at the move by both parties to devalue the input of Florida's voters. But I was - and still am - even angrier at the candidates running for office who made public statements to the effect that Florida has no role to play in the selection process. ...more
