Sunshine Law Violation A letter to fire commissioners suggesting how they should vote, who they should vote for and asking them to expedite the selection process seems to me to violate the very concept of the "Government in the Sunshine" laws. ...more

Breaking tradition and the confines of shopping center parking lots, next month's Taste of New Tampa will be held in the expanse of the community's largest public park. The 15th annual event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. March 30 at the 40-acre New Tampa Community Park, next to the Freedom High/Liberty Middle schools campus on Commerce Park Drive. In November, the New Tampa Community Council was invited to hold the food fest at Tampa Palms Professional Center, across the street from the park. ...more

SEBRING — Beautification projects in Highlands County were shut down last year because grant funding was pulled from Keep Highlands County Beautiful, the local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, which funds neighborhood, school and road improvement projects. This year, though, the agency has at least $12,000 in funding, thanks to the Florida Department of Transportation renewing the agency's yearly state funding. On top of that, Keep Highlands County Beautiful officials are hoping to add another $4,000 to $5,000 to the beautification grant pool through its first-ever fundraiser on Saturday.
