You don't have to be religious to qualify as a fundamentalist. You can be Al Gore, the messiah figure for the global warming cult, whose followers truly believe their gospel of imminent extermination in a Noah-like flood, if we don't immediately change our carbon polluting ways. ...more

This references Dean Johnson's Dec. 6 letter and Billy Raymond's Dec. 15 letter, subject "I agree." Apparently both of these gentlemen are convinced that it does not matter whatever mankind does here on earth, it will not affect the climate or result in global warming, because "God controls the world's temperature, not man. God controls the climate, the earth's ecosystem, and our environment." So, I guess we do not have to be concerned about excess vehicle emissions and smog affecting the climate or ecosystem. We can dump our batteries, paints, acids, oils, nuclear waste, etc. into our landfills, because "God controls our ecosystem, not man." In view of the above covenants stated by the two writers, if the recent California fires, which destroyed thousands of acres, was caused by arson and there is any resulting ecosystem damage, we cannot hold the arsonist responsible, we must hold God accountable. It should be noted that Mr. Johnson has previously stated he believes that "global warming is the biggest hoax." ...more

Christmas is a week from Tuesday. Wow, that means just 10 shopping days left. One if you put things off til Christmas Eve. Considering the increase in the junk e-mail I've been getting, it looks like the 10-day count is just about right. By the way, is it my imagination or is the mailperson-delivered junk mail on the decline as e-mail usage increases? If you haven't already done so it's time to get out all those Christmas movies you have stored away on DVD and VHS. My favorite, I think, is the classic "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven. Those are two guys that the word suave was coined for. The movie, in my opinion, is much better for the season than "It's a Wonderful Life." Getting back to e-mails, a friend of mine told me that when he returned from a week's vacation recently he had over 800 of them waiting to be opened. I told him I haven't received 800 messages since Al Gore invented the Internet. "Well," my friend then admitted, "half of them were checking to see how adequate one of my body parts was." Really now. ...more
