Mary Malool's letter about Barack Obama gave no sensible or logical reasons why anyone should vote for him. The only qualifications for the presidency listed in the letter were Obama's strength, vitality and intelligence. Personally I can't see the strength, the vitality maybe, and as for intelligence, he reads a teleprompter while reading some other speechwriter's thoughts and words. What weren't listed were Obama's connections with undesirable friends and his close association with ACORN, which is now under investigation for voter registration and fraud. Nothing is said about his inexperience serving only 147 working days in the Senate before announcing his bid for the presidency, and then voting "present" 20 times on issues. Evidently he can't seem to make a simple decision on a "yea or nay" vote. Do we need a person like that in the White House with his hand on the switch or to answer the 2 a.m. phone call? ...more

I understand that everyone has a right to have an opinion, and I respect their right to voice that opinion. The part that I can't understand is the "Me" mentality from the people who write to this newspaper asking you to vote "yes" for an independent fire district. ...more

I just saw in the news that ACORN is involved in more scandal in Missouri with voter registration fraud. This organization has people here in Highlands County taking advantage of the poor folks and getting them to register, sometimes two or three times, it is said. ...more
