TALLAHASSEE - The Nature Coast cross-country teams both felt good about their performance in the Class 2A FHSAA Finals Saturday at Apalachee Region Park.

The boys took seventh place with 254 points. The girls were 13th with 347 points.

"I think the boys had a solid race," said Nature Coast head coach Eric Milholland. "John Clark, our fifth runner, ran very well. We ran well one through five. There were no excuses. We had plenty of rest before the race."

Cody Van Natter was the top runner for the Sharks. He was 42nd with a 17:04.62.

"I did really well," said Van Natter.

Kevin Ciccone was 52nd with a 17:08.93 time. The boys averaged 17:21.30.

The girls averaged 21 minutes in the 5K (3.1 mile) race.

"I think we all did great,'' said Alexa Lacy, who had the highest finish among the Lady Sharks, taking 64th in 20:47.79.

The girls team impressed its coach.

"The girls are very consistent," said Milholland. "Alexa Lacy is very consistent."

The race was run at the Apalachee Region Park for the first time after several years at Dade City's Little Everglades Ranch. The temperature was in the 50s and the course seemed less difficult.

Naples-Golden Gate's Alex Pedraza won the boys race with a time of 15:44.34.

Jacksonville-Bishop Kenny won the boys title with a 69 score.

Fort Lauderdale-Pine Crest's Julia Montgomery won the girls title with an 18:20.93 clocking.

Jacksonville-Bolles won the girls team title with 58 points.
