SHADY HILLS - It felt empty for Alexandrea Zieman Friday afternoon at Crews Lake Park.

The Springstead and Central teams finished their seasons at Class 3A, District 6.

No county boys or girls were able to advance to the next weekend's regional meet at Lecanto High. Only the top four teams and the top 13 individuals qualified.

Zieman, a Springstead junior, was second on her Lady Eagles team. She finished 36th with a time of 23:41. Teammate Tiana Newton finished 19th with a time of 21:24.

Springstead's girls were seventh with 199 points. Central's girls were 10th with 240 points.

Zieman didn't run her best race.

"I just started breaking down on the course,'' Zieman said. "I was hoping to get a PR (personal record). I was second on the team.

"Her (Newton's) ankle is still a little bad. I am hurting a little bit on my left knee. I fell, not on this course, but previously, and I guess that could have hurt me."

The Springstead boys were seventh with 165 points. Central was ninth with 274 points. Springstead's Carl Zee was 24th (18:16). Central's Austin Goins was 48th (19:30).

For the Central girls, Makayla Mackenzie was 42nd (24:20).

Wiregrass Ranch High's Nikita Shah won the girls title with an 18:39 time. She also led the Lady Bulls to their fifth straight district title. They had 47 points, while Sarasota was second with 76 points and Lecanto was third with 91 points.

In the boys race, Sarasota ended Wiregrass Ranch's streak of four straight district titles. Sarasota had 31 points while Wiregrass Ranch had 51.

Sarasota's Zackery Summerall won the boys race in 16 minutes flat. Teammate Courtland Bernard was second with a 16:09.
