Oak Hill Golf Tournament
SPRING HILL - Oak Hill Hospital is sponsoring the United Way of Hernando County's annual golf tournament, on Friday, Nov. 13 at Silverthorn Country Club located at 4550 Golf Club Lane. The four-person scramble will begin with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The tourney costs $60 per player or $300 for team sponsorship and $50 for hole sponsorship. Price includes cart, green's fees and lunch.

Girls fast-pitch softball travel ball tryouts
SPRING HILL - Team OverDrive formally the Spring Hill Shockers has new coaches and new look. Tryouts are being held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1-2 6:30pm at the Anderson Snow Sports Complex for girls 9 to 14 years of age for 10, 12 and 14U teams.
Team OverDrive is a local team looking for players who want to be a part of a team that values hard work and discipline along with team building and having fun.

Lightning hosts Military Night Out
TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation will host Military Night Out, on Nov. 12 when the Lightning face off against the Minnesota Wild at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum .
In observance of Veterans Day, the Military Night Out program is designed to honor and reward our heroes for the work they do at home and abroad. Each game, one serviceman or woman receives special recognition, but on this special night, the Lightning would like to take the opportunity to thank as many as we can for their service to our country and for helping to maintain our freedoms.
Members of the community can show their support for the event by purchasing a variety of special ticket packages through the Lightning Foundation.
All sponsor levels provide tickets for our Bay Area armed forces members to attend the game. As a Military Night Out sponsor, Lightning fans will also receive recognition on Lightning Vision during the game. As vital members of the Tampa Bay community, the Lightning organization is hopeful that Bolts fans will choose to join us in our effort to salute our troops and allow them the opportunity to experience exciting Tampa Bay Lightning hockey.

Senior softball players sought
SPRING HILL - The local Senior Softball League, or SSIL (senior softball invitational league), plays Tuesday and Thursday morning beginning at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Spring Hill. Little Buddies baseball begins Nov. 9
BROOKSVILLE - The City of Brooksville Recreation Department is holding registration for the Little Buddies baseball program for children, ages 3-5.
The program will be conducted from 5:15-6:15 p.m. every Monday, starting Nov. 9 and through Dec. 14, at the Jerome Brown
Community Center.
The program teaches basic motor skills of baseball in a fun, non-competitive environment.
The registration fee for the six-week event is $60 and includes a T-Shirt.

Alzheimer's Family Organization hosts golf tourney
NEW PORT RICHEY - The Alzheimer's Family Organization will holds its ninth annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Beacon Woods Golf Club, 12507 Clocktower Parkway, Bayonet Point.
Registration will begin at 6 a.m. followed with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The event will consist of 18 holes of golf in a four-person scramble format. Raffles and door prizes will also be featured.
Lunch will be catered by Argento's Italian Bistro. IHOP will provide breakfast for the players.
Awards will be given for the top three teams, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. There will also be a putting contest for a chance to win $10,000 and a Hole-in-One contest.
Cost is $75 per players.
The Alzheimer's Family Organization serves Central Florida including Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Pasco, Pinellas and Sumter Counties.
Proceeds from this event will help individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their families in Pasco County.

BROOKSVILLE - The West Central Officials Association is looking for new and experienced football officials to work Pasco and Hernando County middle school, junior varsity and varsity contests for the 2010 season.
Tampa Bay Area Sports Officials are also seeking new and experienced flag and tackle football officials to work youth games in Hernando, Pasco and Hillsborough Counties for the 2010 flag and tackle seasons.

New or used golf clubs sought
BROOKSVILLE - The City of Brooksville Recreation Department is seeking donations of new or used golf clubs in support of its First Tee Youth Golf Program.
The clubs will be cut down and be re-gripped to be used by younger golfers participating in the program. Anyone interested in making a donation should contact Dave Conrad at 540-3835.
Florida Senior Games open registration
TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Senior Games State Championships is two months away and prospective athletes have a variety of ways to sign up for the 18th annual State Championships, to be held in Cape Coral on Dec. 5-13.
It has never been easier for athletes to register for competition in the state's only Senior-oriented Olympic-style Sports Festival.
The easiest way is for athletes to visit www.flasports.com and register online. Once athletes create an account, future registrations will be a snap. Once contact information is provided, the Florida Sports Foundation will be able to keep athletes posted of the latest news in email correspondence.
Another option is to download registration information from www.flasports.com and send it back to the Florida Sports Foundation. Each Senior Games sport has information posted at www.flasports.com in pdf files.
Florida Senior Games State Championships registration books have been mailed out to athletes. Senior athletes who have qualified at a 2009 Local Games event or participated in previous Senior Games events are on the FSF mailing list and will receive a registration book. To receive a 2009 Florida Senior Games State Championships Registration Book in the mail, please contact the FSF by calling toll free 1-866-FL-GAMES or send an email to games@flasports.com.
The deadline for applications to be received at the Florida Sports Foundation office in Tallahassee is Monday, Nov. 16. Online registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 20. Entry fees also vary by sport.
New for the 2009 Games are some events where athletes younger than 50 may compete alongside Senior Athletes in their own age groups. At the Powerlifting competition, to be held Saturday, Dec. 5, athletes 40 and older are invited to participate. Divisions will be contested in accordance with Senior Games five-year increments starting with age 40-44.
The 5K Road Race, to be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Rotary Park in Cape Coral, is an intergenerational event with athletes of all age invited to participate. Athletes 49 and younger will be categorized at Florida's Sunshine State Games athletes. The 5K Road Race will accept on-site registration the day of the event.
Most sports of the Florida Senior Games State Championships require qualifying at a Florida Local Senior Games. Athletes not yet qualified for the State Championships, have five opportunities left to compete in the next month, beginning this weekend with the Gainesville Senior Games. The Villages are also holding a softball-only qualifier.
Ten sports are considered "OPEN" events, which an athlete is not required to participate in a Sanctioned Florida Local Senior Games Qualifier. Archery, Billiards, Bocce, Pickleball, Powerlifting, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Softball and Volleyball are considered "OPEN" events.

Rotary Club of Brooksville Golf Tournament
BROOKSVILLE - The 32nd annual Rotary Club of Brooksville Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the Brooksville Country Club at Majestic Oaks, 23446 Links Dr., on Dec. 9.
The cost is $75 per golfer and sponsorships are available for $75. This is a fundraising event to help fund the Brooksville Rotary charitable activities.

Learn to scuba
SPRING HILL - Learn to scuba at the Hernando County Family YMCA. Classes begin Nov. 10 and run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9:30 p.m.
This course includes six class and pool sessions for ages 12 and older in good physical health and comfortable in and under the water.
There will also be classes from 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m. for ages 10 and older, plus open water dives on Thursday and Friday in the Gulf of Mexico or Rainbow River at $20 per day.
Upon completion of the classes persons will be certified as Open Water Scuba Diver, recognized worldwide.
The cost is $120 for YMCA members and $140 for non-members, plus $60 for use of scuba equipment.
