When a high school football team like Central loses four of their five top rushers, their top three receivers, its top five scorers, then the pressure is put on the returning players to make something happen the next season.
For Central guard/defensive tackle Brooks Reid, 2008 is a time for him and his line mates to step up and perform well enough to make the Bears a better team this year.
At 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, Reid is one of the few returning starters from last year's 6-4 team. And because of that Reid understands that this year he has to show improvement if the Bears want any chance of getting back into the state playoffs.
"Both sides of the ball have got to step it up," indicated Reid. "We lost quite a few starters from last year. But I feel it's my year senior year and I've gotten a little bit better. So this is my year to shine."
With all the losses Central had this year; Reid believes that he has to do well on both sides of the ball in order to help his team this year.
"With all the people we lost, everyone on both sides of the line, offense and defense, know they have to do better," summed up Reid.
Over the summer, Reid attended two summer camps when he went to the University of Florida camp and the Down and Dirty camp in Jacksonville.
Of his up-side, Reid says he has been contacted by schools like Marshall, Florida International, Florida Atlantic and Iowa State.
A transfer from South Walton Beach High School in the Panhandle of the state his freshman year, Reid hopes all the hard work he has done will pay off this year.
"We're trying to have a good program," he added. "My speed has improved and I think I should have a good year on both the offensive and defensive lines."
