HCA: The Beat Goes On

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

It helps a lot when an offensive unit can run the football almost at will.
Friday night in their 38-6 win against Ocala-St. John Lutheran, Hernando Christian Academy ran the ball for over 350 yards in the game to improve its unbeaten record to 7-0.
Nate Kautsky ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Jeremy Knight ran for 86 yards and two scores in one quarter of action. They were assisted by Ian Townsend, who ran for 70 yards, and Daniel Keyes, who rushed for 69 yards filling in for Knight.
The Lions rushed for 354 yards in the game while quarterback David Rotteveel completed all nine of his passes on the night for 85 yards and a touchdown.
"My boys really played well for the adversity we faced tonight," said HCA coach David Raley.
Knight, who entered the game with over 700 yards rushing, sprained his right ankle late in the first quarter and missed the rest of the game.
But despite the injury, the Lions still managed to move the ball on the ground as much as they wanted.
"Daniel (Keyes) did a great job stepping in for Jeremy," Raley said. "But a lot of the credit has to go to our offensive line. They are a group of seniors that have really helped our team be unbeaten."

Quick strike

HCA scored on their opening possession of the game as they went 50 yards in five plays with Knight getting all the yards. The touchdown came on a 5-yard run. Knight followed with a two-point conversion.
Later in the quarter, HCA took six plays to go 53 yards and again Knight found the endzone, running it in from 16 yards out. And once again, Knight ran in the two-point attempt.
But on their next series, Knight sprained his right ankle and left the game. However, Kautsky and Keyes more than made up for the loss.
Late in the second quarter, Kautsky scored the first of his two touchdowns on an 8-yard run. Kautsky was stopped on the PAT try and HCA led 22-0 at halftime.
HCA had two more scores in the second half as Rotteveel hit Garrett Mikola with a 5-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Kautsky ended the scoring for HCA when he took one in from 15 yards midway through the fourth quarter.
HCA QB Rotteveel said after Knight left the game due to an injury, he hoped someone else would come through for the Lions.
"We need to have guys who can step up when something happens," said Rotteveel. "I was interested to see who would step up and put the team on their back and Daniel did it tonight."
The win keeps HCA unbeaten this year and the seventh win is also a school record for victories in a season. But Raley said his offensive line played as well as it had all season Friday night.
"It took something out of our offense when Jeremy went down, but then Daniel and Nate came through as did our offensive line. Those boys have worked hard all year and they are the reason we're as good as we are now," said Raley.
