Back in the Hunt

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Dixie Youth League Angels (ages 9-10) District 4 Tournament held at Oakridge Park was postponed due to inclement weather all of Saturday and the majority of Sunday.
The Spring Hill All-Stars were scheduled to play Wesley Chapel at 11 a.m. Sunday morning, but first pitch wasn't until later that evening.
Spring Hill eventually defeated Wesley Chapel, 7-2, behind Sarah Brown's 1-hitter.
"It was closer than I thought it would be," said Head Coach Glenn Primavera. "We had a hard time adapting to the speed of their pitches. They were slower than what we're used to. We were out in front of a lot of pitches, but had some timely hits."

Solving Hernando

By Monday with the radar screen clear, there was much softball to be played.
Ashley "Rat" Logan took the mound for the 5 p.m. meeting against county rivals Hernando and led her team to victory in 4 1/2 innings, 8-1. "Rat" had five strike-outs, giving up three hits and two walks.
Tied 1-1, Spring Hill broke it open with a 4-run second-inning when Abbey Primavera started with a lead-off walk. Teammates Jackie Pennett, Kama Woodall and Peyton Varela did likewise.
Spring Hill salted the game away with a 3-run fourth inning when Woodall, Varela, Sarah Kelly and Sarah Brown each reached on walks. Breanna Harvey cracked an RBI single to seal the deal.
"A Hernando county rivalry," Primavera chuckled. "We started off a little bit slow. But we were patient up there. The name of the game is pitching and defense. I know we're going to get a couple of runs. If we give up only one run, we win every time."
Spring Hill was expected to face always-tough West Pasco in the next round with Peyton Varela on the mound.
"I definitley think we have the capability to go all the way," added the confident Primavera.
