Spring Hill American Rolls On

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Two Spring Hill teams came into Tuesday's AAA Minors (ages 9-10) All-Stars District 6 Tournament action undefeated.
Only one left the Kenny Dixon Sports Complex in Bushnell still alive in the winner's bracket.
Spring Hill American took an 8-4 decision over Spring Hill National, advancing to play Wesley Chapel at 8:30 p.m. today in a match-up of the only unbeaten teams left in the double-elimination event.
Meanwhile, Spring Hill National must survive a loser's bracket game against Hernando at 6:30 p.m.
Spring Hill American improved to 3-0, following up a 25-0 victory over Ridge Manor on Saturday and 2-1 triumph over San Antonio on Monday.
Dante Hamilton started on the mound, throwing two scoreless innings. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a leadoff base hit in the first. He scored on Joshua Penney's RBI single.
Spring Hill American tacked on five runs on five hits and three walks in the second inning, amassing a lead it would never relinquish.
Mason Stacy got Spring Hill National (2-1) on the board with a home run in the fourth, sparking a three-run inning. However, Penney struck out four over the final two innings to close the door.
"It seems like we play well overall," Spring Hill American Head Coach Al Sorrentino said. "Nobody plays incredible. We really have a team. Everybody does their part.
"...You don't want to knock anybody off. The kids all know each other and it's tough. Both teams know what each other does well."
If both Spring Hill teams win today, they'll face each other again tomorrow. That scenario would leave Spring Hill American as the lone undefeated team.
That would also mean an end to Hernando's tournament run. After Saturday's 8-7 loss to San Antonio, Hernando rallied to beat Ridge Manor on Monday, 13-0, and Oak Griner on Tuesday, 8-5.
Hernando went up by as much 8-1, taking advantage of Oak Griner errors and breaking open a 3-1 contest with a four-run fifth. Price Sartor contributed a two-run double in that outburst.
Pierce Kimbrough threw two scoreless innings to start the game and went 2-for-3 with a double. Tyson Lindengood also had a double.
"We're just trying to concentrate on the fundamentals of baseball," Hernando Head Coach Bruce Price said. "We need to hit a little better I think. We left a lot of runners on base this game.
"...I'm looking for a very, very tough, probably close game (tonight). They're (Spring Hill National) a very well-coached team. There are good players on that team, as well. We've just got to prepare our guys to play a six-inning ballgame."
