BUSHNELL - As Spring Hill National Head Coach John Hrobuchak meandered through the crowd following his team's 13-0 victory last night over Wildwood, a few of the players' parents praised him.
"Nice job, coach," one yelled to him.
Hrobuchak didn't hesitate in replying. "Thanks, but I didn't do it. The kids did."
It was an accurate summary. Spring National remained unbeaten in the Dixie League AAA Minors (ages 9-10) All-Stars District 6 Tournament.
Thanks to a combined one-hitter tossed by Luke Laferty, Brandon Baker and Bohdi Sbashnig, along with Jacob Mannino's second home run of the tournament, Spring Hill National rolled to the lopsided mercy-rule victory at the Kenny Dixon Sports Complex in Bushnell.
"We were efficient tonight," said Hrobuchak. "We did what we had to do. We didn't make any real mistakes."
Laferty started and got the win, working two hitless innings. Baker and Sbashnig each pitched an inning, with Laferty and Baker each striking out two.
Mannino, who also had a double and scored twice in the game, slugged a two-run homer in the second inning as the Spring Hill followed a six-run first inning with a four-run second. Three more in the third made any further at-bats unnecessary.
Baker and Justin Rubeo each had a double and a single in the nine-hit attack.
"It was a quick game," added Hrobuchak. "We didn't have to use much pitching."
Tonight Spring Hill National will meet the winner of last night's late game between Spring Hill American and San Antonio. The results of that game were unavailable at press time.
