Last week's District 6 Tournament produced mixed results for the Ridge Manor T-Ball (ages 5-6) All-Stars.
After an exciting beginning, an opening-round 30-14 win over Wildwood, Ridge Manor was eliminated over its next two games at Sam Harris Memorial Park in Webster.
Following a second-round bye, Ridge Manor fell to Wesley Chapel American last Tuesday night, 28-7, then lost to Sumter National on Wednesday, 28-8.
That ended Ridge Manor's run in the nine-team double-elimination tournament at 1-2. Last year Ridge Manor went 2-2, the first two wins on any level in league history.
"We had fun," Ridge Manor Manager Walter Kieffer said. "Everybody had fun. Everyone was pouting after the game, my son comes out and said it's not if you win or lose, it's if you had fun. That kind of cheered them up."
Sumter National jumped on Ridge Manor for nine runs in the top of the first, while Ridge Manor could only respond with one in the bottom half. The game got out of hand quickly from there.
"I'm a little disappointed," said Kieffer, who held championship hopes prior to the tournament. "But we were really good in the first game. If we kept up that momentum we'd have made it through the second and third game. But we lost all focus.
"This will be a really good building block for them. We know what we have to work on and what to improve on.
"No matter what, they're still all-stars. This is better than what we've done in the past before the last two years."
