Ben Martucci, a former Hernando High distance runner, has been named interim head coach for the men’s track and field team at Florida Southern College.
Martucci and fellow Florida Southern graduate Rebecca Clark Marsh replace Jamie Moreno, who resigned as cross country/track coach after the cross country season. "We are excited to bring back two former Mocs who had tremendous careers to lead our programs on an interim basis," Athletic Director Pete Meyer said in a statement released Wednesday. "Rebecca and Ben were outstanding runners and understand the history and success of the program, as well as the academic requirements needed to be successful in the classroom as well." Martucci, from Brooksville, ranks as one of the top distance runners in Moccasin history. During his four-year career (2007-10) he was a two-time Sunshine State Conference individual cross country champion (2009-10) and ran on four SSC championship teams, placing fifth individually as a freshman and as a sophomore . He was named SSC Runner of the Year as a junior and senior and was team MVP both years. In track, he owns the Moccasins’ best times in the 800 meters (1:58.10), 1500 meters (3:54.52), 3000 meters (8:42.95) and 5000 meters (14:40.47). He graduated from Florida Southern in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in human movement and performance.
