Local authorities said they arrested a man Monday night who has been wanted for questioning in relation to a homicide in Indiana.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office received a call from a detective from the Indiana Task Force advising deputies to be on the lookout for Douglas Anthony Smith, 26, who was thought to have been driving through the area in a black 2007 Chevrolet Impala, according to a media release.
A patrol deputy in the area of Ridge Manor spotted Smith's vehicle around 11 p.m. along State Road 50 near Interstate 75, authorities said.
The deputy followed the vehicle after it got onto the interstate, called for backup units and followed the Chevrolet northbound, according to the sheriff's office.
The vehicle crossed the Sumer County line and deputies from that jurisdiction stopped Smith at the 314-mile marker – about 13 miles north of the Brooksville exit.
Jacqueline Williams, 28, was identified in a media release as both the victim in the homicide and Smith's possible girlfriend.
Smith was apprehended without incident, deputies said. The Highland Police Department was seeking him for questioning in relation to the slaying, according to reports.
