Brooksville motorist dies along Suncoast Parkway

A Brooksville man died Thursday morning from injuries he sustained in an accident along the Suncoast Parkway, troopers said.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., Robert Marrero Jr., 28, was traveling northbound along the highway near the State Road 54 exit when his 2007 Toyota veered onto the outside paved shoulder and crashed into a concrete wall, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Marrero's vehicle was deflected back across the northbound lanes, struck the opposing concrete barrier wall, traveled back across the road and rammed into the metal guardrail.

Marrero was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he was pronounced dead, according to an accident report.

Troopers said Marrero was not wearing a seatbelt.

The case will remain open as investigators await the results of a toxicology report, according to FHP.
