A fight over a bag of potato chips ended with a juvenile girl being hospitalized after a teen punched her to the floor and kicked her in the head as she lay there.

The 16-year-old, who is not being named because of his age, is charged with felony battery stemming from the incident Sunday at his home located on Pointview Road in Brooksville, according to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report.

Both the teen and the victim, who live at the home, were arguing over the chips when the teen struck the girl with a pair of pants that had a belt attached to it — striking the girl in the head and causing a laceration.

The teen then punched the girl in the face, causing her to fall to the ground, the report shows.

As she lay on the floor, the teen then kicked her in the head.

The girl was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital where her condition was not disclosed. The teen was taken to Hernando County Jail and then released to his parents on home detention.
