MASARYKTOWN - A 25-year-old Masaryktown man was arrested Monday on charges he struck his ex-girlfriend during an argument and then also kicked a deputy in the throat as he was being arrested.

According to the report, Michael Smallwood, who had a no-contact order against him for a previous battery against his ex-girlfriend, told deputies he went to the woman's residence to pick up a few items and talk to her about repairing their relationship.

During the encounter Smallwood confronted the woman about cheating on him. During that argument deputies said Smallwood grabbed the woman and struck her.

As deputies attempted to place Smallwood in the back of the patrol car he began to struggle.

During the struggle Smallwood kicked one of the deputies in the throat, according to the report.

Once in the vehicle, deputies said Smallwood kicked out the side window causing a cut on another deputy's arm.

Smallwood was then placed into another vehicle and transported to the jail where he's being held without bond on charges of domestic battery, criminal mischief, three counts of resisting an officer with violence, two counts of battery of a law enforcement officer and violation of a pre-trial release.
