An 81-year-old Hudson man was arrested Thursday on charges of DUI manslaughter more two months after authorities said he caused a wreck while intoxicated that killed two people along U.S. 19.

The accident happened at 8:38 p.m. Aug. 5 as Albert Friedman was traveling north in the center lane of U.S. 19 attempting to pass traffic.

Authorities say Friedman swerved into another vehicle driven by Bridgette Ewing, 44, Spring Hill. Ewing and her passenger, Vincent Dicristo, 44, Port Richey, both died at the scene after the car they were in rotated off the roadway and struck a light pole.

Friedman was hospitalized following the accident.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins said Freidman wasn't arrested until Thursday because they were awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test, which came back at .227 or nearly triple the legal limit.
