No red light camerasPublished: October 8, 2012
If the purpose of using red light cameras is to improve safety then I am all for it. However, the other day I was driving through a very busy intersection at the corner of Broad Street and Cortez in Brooksville where a construction worker waved me to pass through a red light while his crew was surfacing the road. I did as the road worker directed me.
A few weeks later, I received a citation in the mail. I brought the ticket to Officer Jeffery at the local Brooksville Police Department to explain what had happened. Clearly if this program is all about public safety, then I strongly believe that a police officer should have been on location directing traffic for this very purpose.
Officer Jeffery showed me the video and argued that the construction worker was not within the video frame. It came to my word versus his word. Consequently, I clearly had less authority here, and yes, I paid the ticket.
My point, why wasn't law enforcement directing traffic on this multi-lane intersection of U.S. 41 and State Road 50 during this precarious situation? Instead, traffic control was left to a road crew employee whose concern was to complete the last patch to the intersection before the sun set. Thankfully, there was not an accident as I cautiously drove through the red light.
If law enforcement is about safety, then they should have been there to direct traffic. The red light program did nothing for this situation.

The facts
I would like to suggest that you liberals check into some of the conservative Websites. You may learn some of the actual documented facts to support the statements made about, the president of these United States. You may also find substantiated facts that you have all along thought to be false, are actually true.
I listened to the debates last night, and was surprised that President Obama was barely able to articulate everything that the Democrats had hoped that he would bring up.
Might I suggest that he has become so dependent on his pre-written teleprompter information, that he just looks it over enough to be familiar with it, and doesn't adequately study it. Yes he is a great orator and he gives eloquent speeches that are written by someone else. It would appear that he failed to study his speech writers' information enough to adequately retain that information, to be able to give it with out a teleprompter!
But, there is so much more than good looks, and presentation to the presidency. This man has made promises that he has never kept, like having an open door policy and postings on C-Span. He has desecrated our Constitution. He has embarrassed our country by bowing to the Muslim president, and practically slapping the Queen of England in the face with his cheap shoddy gift of "HIS" DVDs. Also very little was said about his open mic comment to the Russian diplomate, about how he would be more at liberty to take action after the elections.
He also wanted to make the military men and women pay for their own insurance for the injuries they received in combat. "Because they knew what they were getting into when they enlisted." He also didn't want to allow the allotted time needed to get the absentee ballots back from the military personnel over seas.
Now a word to you conservatives who say they won't vote for Romney because he is a Mormon. Yet you will vote for a self proclaimed Muslim, by not voting at all! (And yes he is caught on video making statements about his Muslim faith.) Or didn't you stop to think about the fact that "NO VOTE" is a vote for Obama.
And for you welfare recipients did Obama give you the big screen TV, pay for your kids' college, and buy you that car and pay for your gas, that someone promised, he would. I think "NOT!" Welcome to the real world.

Another rant?
I guess Mr. Leatherwood will consider this another "rabid Republican rant, but too bad. The subject of my "rant" is the presidential debate last Wednesday.
We can try to debate whether Mitt Romney or Barack Obama won or lost the debate. But, anyone with any brain activity at all (liberals included), will know that Romney had the better showing.
The real story of this debate was the reaction by Barack Obama's so-called supporters. The reasons given for Mr. Obama's dismal performance by those bastions of truth and fairness (this is sarcasm, you liberals) on MSNBC were hysterical.
Rachel Maddow, who never is at a loss to give a harsh and biting remark to conservatives, was almost speechless.
Mika Brzezinski couldn't find words to describe it, either. Ed Shultz, after he lifted his chin off the desk, tried to come up with some lame excuse. Al Sharpton's usual unintelligible rant was even worse. Chris Matthews was practically in tears about it, and said that if Obama had been watching his show more, he would have been better prepared for Romney.
And, the iconic liberal journalist, Bob Woodward, was sure the reason Mr. Obama gave such a poor showing was that just before the debate started, he was given some news of a monumental national crisis that we would find out about someday.
But, the absolute best reason (excuse) given for the president's dismal performance was given by Al Gore. Mr. Gore said it was due to Denver's high altitude! If that is the real reason, then we must conclude that Mr. Gore has moved from Tennessee, and has been living atop Mt. Everest the past few years.

Getting along
I just read the article on the front page of Saturday's paper about Bark Island at Pine Island.
Willy Kochounian says his business is hurting because families don't want to bring there children to play after the dogs have been there. I see chicken bones in the sand all the time, dirty diapers all around not to mention bird poop on the ground, but has not complaining about that.
His business is not even open at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. If it was I and plenty of others would be there buying coffee and soda. Don't you think there are plenty of other things to worry about in the world then dogs going to Pine Island for two hours every other Saturday in the winter?
Not that Hernando County gives us any place else to go. How many times do they close Pine Island due to too much bacteria in the water to swim. That is from the houses septic systems leaking into the water.
I see many families coming to the park at 9 a.m. while I'm there with my dogs and they seem to like watching the dogs play.
I have even had them compliment me on my dogs. So please don't be anti dog and let our dogs play just two hours every other Saturday from September through March.
