Mariner Boulevard damage to be repaired

Tropical Storm Debby caused considerable damage when she made her trek through Hernando County in June, dumping more than 12 inches of rain and causing a dozen sinkholes to open.

Repairs are still being made nearly six months later to various roadways throughout the county, causing road closures and detours.

The Hernando County Division of Transportation Services just announced another temporary road closure in a heavily-traveled section of Mariner Boulevard, between Linden Drive and Maderia Street. That section will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

According to a statement from the Division of Transportation Services, "the temporary road closure is necessary in order to allow County Transportation Services crews to repair damage to the roadway caused by Tropical Storm Debby."

Detours are planned to reroute commuters, which will include Linden Drive, Maderia St. and Amherst Ave. Resident access will also be provided.

The exact purpose of the repairs or how the project was being funded was not confirmed as of press time.
