BROOKSVILLE - A 24-year-old Brooksville man was arrested Saturday and charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation on his girlfriend.Published: November 26, 2012
Henry Basler, of 10050 Lake Drive, admitted to sheriff's deputies he and his girlfriend shoved each other back and forth. He also told deputies he wrapped his hands around her neck but with no intent to hurt her.
A sheriff's report said deputies were dispatched to the home regarding a complaint to a battery. Dispatch had said Basler had just left the residence in his pick-up and the victim claimed he choked her.
Deputies located Basler traveling on Lake Drive toward Country Road and stopped his vehicle. Basler told deputies he had been involved in an argument with his girlfriend because she was cheating on him and they shoved each other.
Deputies noticed a pinkish abrasion in the center of the woman's throat. She said that during an argument about her new boyfriend, Basler pushed and shoved her to the floor, at one point slamming her forehead onto the carpeted floor.
Basler then threw her on the bed and wrapped his hands around her throat and she couldn't breathe, she told deputies. Basler stopped choking her before she passed out and the left the home, the report said.
The sheriff's report said the two had lived together for more than two years and had a child in common.
Basler was also charged with one count of domestic battery and is being held in the Hernando County jail on a no-bond status.
