New farmer's market proposed for S.R. 50

BROOKSVILLE - Planning and zoning commissioners will consider an applicant's request for a temporary conditional use permit to operate a farmer's market on the northwest corner of State Road 50 and U.S. 301.

Petitioner Peggy Sparrow plans to run the market out of an existing 2,780-square-foot building. The market and produce stand would include 10 vendors.

After reviewing the request, the county engineer has found conflicts between the drive aisle, handicap parking, and access to S.R. 50.

And because of the existing striping along the SR 50 driveway, cars parked in that area could block access into the market, according to the engineer.

Still, planning staffers recommend the board approve the conditional permit — with stipulated changes — for two years.

Also Tuesday, planning commissioners will hear a request from E.R. Jahna Industries Inc. to rezone a 112.30-acre site along U.S. 301 from agricultural to mining.

The company plans to mine and process limestone, and the site would be combined with the adjacent mining property to the south.

The planning and zoning commission meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.
