In the 1st heat of the day 110 mud runners make their way through the first stretch of the course during the Baddest Mudder 5K + run at the Hernando County Fairgrounds. The fun began at 9:30 a.m. with a new heat every 30 minutes, right up until 4:30 P.M. The event was estimated to attract over 800 participants in the 2-day event.

David Sowers of New Port Richey was heels over head as he makes an acrobatic approach to one of the mud hills during the Baddest Mudder 5K+ (cq) at the Hernando County fairgrounds Saturday morning. Hundreds turned out for the clean, dirty fun. The event continues Sunday.

Josh Santiago,21, came all the way from Kissimmee to compete in the Baddest Mudder 5K+ (cq) run at the Hernando County Fairgrounds Saturday morning. Santiago lost an little time in his run when he lost his shoes and retrieved them from deep mud during the second heat of the competition.

Sixteen year-old Corbin Clarke of Inverness takes a well-deserved shower after coming in first place during the first heat of the Baddest Mudder 5K+ run at the Hernando County Fairgrounds Saturday morning. The biggest challenge for Clarke was the back course where runners took to the woods. Clarke finished the course in 28 minutes and 8 seconds.

Josh Santiago, 21, came all the way from Kissimmee to compete just to lose his sneakers to the suction of the deepest mud during the Baddest Mudder 5K+ (cq) run at the Hernando County Fairgrounds Saturday morning. Santiago lost some time in his finish after it took some time to locate his sneakers in the deep mud during the second heat of the competition. Organizers expect over 800 competitors in the 2-day event which continues today (Sunday).

Blanca Gonzalez of Brooksville cheers on her granddaughter, Gracie Leyva,15, of Brooksville and her teammate, Aimee Pacchiarotti,17, also of Brooksville. Blanca managed to sit in the shade of the sign in the center of the course at the Hernando County Fairgrounds Saturday morning.
