Steven Cantone, Weeki Wachee, was arrested following an audit conducted at the store located at 13376 Cortez Blvd.
It was during that audit that Game Stop regional loss prevention officer Mary Wilkins discovered roughly $5,000 in inventory and funds missing from the store.
The loss prevention officer then contacted the sheriff's office, who responded to the store.
Wilkins told deputies that her investigation showed Cantone conducted fraudulent returns and altered customers cash deposits toward future purchases.
She said when Cantone was confronted, he admitted to conducting the fraudulent returns and keeping the money for himself.
When questioned by deputies, Cantone said between July 15 and Oct. 13 he committed about 20 to 30 fraudulent returns. He also admitted to accepting a $250 deposit from a customer and then altered the store's paperwork to indicate it was only a $50 deposit and pocketed the rest of the cash, according to the report.
Cantone told deputies he stole $1,900 in cash from the store to fund his relapse into prescription drug addiction.
His bond was set at $1,000.
