Giving praise to educatorsPublished: May 23, 2012
Here we are at another end to another school year and parents planning class parties, preparing kids for final exams, and some of us for our child to graduate kindergarten, fifth grade, eighth grade and yes seniors taking that walk across the stage to receive their diplomas and head off to college, or as we call it "the real world."
While as were transitioning in our household for our last of three to make her march at Nature Coast it occurred to me that you really don't read about the thanks that are so well deserved to our educators!
We read about the sports accolades, school grades, budget cuts, district problems and we even get to read the dirt on who got fired or got arrested that works for the county, but we don't really read about the well deserved thanks that should be afforded our local educators everyday.
I think all too often we get caught up in that they have a job to do and that parents don't realize that those same educators are raising children at home also and many of them juggle an extra job just like we do.
So educators of Hernando County let me be the one that says "thank you." Thank you for educating our children. Thank you for putting up with nasty letters from parents and taking the blame when it probably wasn't always your fault.
Thank you for having the best interest of our children at heart everyday when you go to school. Thank you for putting your life, your family and your activities on hold because something else is going on at school that requires your attention. Thank you that even if negative publicity was brought to your school because of the choice of a co-worker thank you for not giving up and leaving. Thank you for being the best at what you do every day for the sake of our children.
We started this venture 15 years ago at Westside Elementary and have been through Suncoast, Chocachatti, Challenger K-8, Powell, Hernando High and lastly at Nature Coast. We will be graduating our last of three all who have graduated a Shark and there is not a single educator in Hernando County that doesn't deserve a thank you for being part of this day!
It's not just the educators that deserve a special thank you but the principals, the administrators, the office staff, the guidance counselors, librarians, clinic staff, lunch room ladies and even the custodians.
Parents talk to your kids I guarantee you that there are people at the school every single day encouraging your child, friending your child and believing in your child when they are not believing in themselves. And next time you want to get angry at your school take a deep breath and ask yourself first "how I can make this better," "how can we work together?"
Those two questions will make your 13 educational years a much easier ride and I promise you that at the end of the road you too will want to say "Thank You" to each and every person that helped get your child across that stage!
