BROOKSVILLE - A Hudson man was charged with four counts of fraud Tuesday on charges of impersonating a fire extinguisher inspector.

Over the past few weeks Allen Rhyndress, 50, entered multiple Spring Hill businesses offering to visually inspect the fire extinguishers, according to a Hernando County Sheriff Office report.

Rhyndress collected $80 cash for his visit and provided a hand-written receipt. When one of the business owners contacted her fire inspector, she was told Rhyndress was not an employee and, suspecting fraud, advised she contact law enforcement.

When interviewed by detectives, Rhyndress said he was performing the inspections to help his mother with her bills.

Detectives believe there might be other fraud victims in Hernando and Pasco Counties. Victims can contact Detective Robert Desmond at 352-797-3868 or rdesmond@hernandosheriff.com.
