Hamilton a brilliant public servant, leader

Hernando County Administrator David Hamilton hired an attorney to stay above the fray in the effort by the current board of commissioners to dismiss him summarily in a petty rant in the sudden discovery of a move by Mr. Hamilton for county administrator in Sarasota.

Who would not want to retire eventually to Florida at its best to walk the beaches in Sarasota, a decision that brought him to Hernando County in the first place? Unfortunately, it turned out that Hernando County has not been too friendly with our eighth county administrator in a 20-year stretch of time, averaging about 2.5 years for each administrator.

I served under six administrators here as a veterans' representative. I observed their tenure with interest as I served also as an administrator for Muskingum County in Zanesville, Ohio, in the late 1970s for a board divided in its political makeup. My work had to be considered by the majority, three out of five. It was a roller-coaster ride filled with sudden surprises.

I have a dual 60-hour master's in political science and public administration, so my academic credentials are always in place in my observations. I have found Mr. Hamilton the most active in tough economic times to change leadership, raise women for upward mobility in the workplace, downsize personnel while maintaining high standards of government service; and he has always shown character and persona as a real gentleman, not easy in these times when shouting, finger-pointing and accusations run rampant throughout our society well into political circles.

I, for one, have urged Sarasota commissioners to hire this brilliant servant in government, ready to bring his principles of leadership to their areas of influence.

Ron Paul for president

When Occupy Hernando came to town and parked it in the face of a new farmers market, the sign should have said Occupy The New Business In Town. That's all Brian Moore and his group were doing because they are against profit of any kind unless it's their own.

I personally think the only point of the Occupy movement is to tear down capitalism any way they can. I'm just glad opposition is there to maybe balance it out when it comes to a head.

By the way, President Barack Obama isn't totally to blame. This crap has been going on for around 100 years now. Hopefully, Americans will realize on time that the only game changer is the Republican presidential hopeful that wins straw polls but is relegated to the back of the line, by the media, every time.

It's not too late people. Save yourself! Give the liberal media a run for their money and vote for Ron Paul.

What's the point?

Re: "Luck has better odds" in the Nov. 3 edition of Hernando Today.

Luck drives magnet schools enrollment! It's difficult to comprehend the decision-making process that led towards "luck of the draw" as the major component in determining student enrollment.

Riddle me this:

How can we achieve diversity?

How can we match an educational curriculum/structure to student skills and desires?

How can we ensure more students on free/reduced lunches?

How can we get (qualify for) federal grants (aka free money)?

Answer: A lottery!

This decision and its supporting criteria raises an obvious question: What is the mission/vision/goals/objectives of magnet schools?

Impeach Obama

President Barack Obama promised the most open and transparent government in our history when he was elected.

What have we gotten?

I have a hard time even recognizing our government anymore.

The Obama administration will now respond to Freedom of Information Act requests by lying and falsely stating that documents they deem damaging to his administration do not exist. They are telling us upfront they will not tell the truth. If the documents don't exist, then there can't be a lawsuit to obtain them.

What has happened to our country? Is this the "hope and change" we were promised? The Justice Department has blocked every attempt to gain information on "Fast and Furious," Solyndra, White House visitor logs and the Black Panther voter scandals, among many others. This administration is a total disgrace.

Now we also find Obama is circumventing Congress and making his own rules. He has become a dictator with his executive orders. Is this democracy? Is this what we want for our country? This is not how a free country works. He is sworn to protect and defend the Constitution and uphold the laws of the land. He is not.

I am surprised that Congress has not started the impeachment process against Obama. But if Congress can't or won't get rid of him, then we the voters must. If he gets four more years in office, what will be left of our country?

We must defeat him in 2012.

Handout vs. perk

Why is it, if I apply for Medicaid and food stamps, it's considered a "handout," but when my government representative gives him/herself a pay raise and free health care for life, it's considered a "perk?"

Remind me again what the government representative's job description is?

Shouldn't they be drug tested?
