As announced recently, S.R. 50, which was scheduled for widening from U.S. 19 to Mariner Boulevard, will now be widened to the Suncoast Parkway.

The latter is the most congested segment of S.R. 50 and was added through Gov. Rick Scott's initiative. This is a welcome present for Hernando County, which depends on S.R. 50 as its major east/west corridor.

The economic benefits are many as jobs will be created and it will serve as an incentive for future business growth.

S.R. 50 functions as a major connection to the Suncoast Parkway, I-75 and points east to the Orlando area. The ability to move goods and people are two important ingredients in the promotion of economic development.

Gov. Scott was wise to add this important improvement as it definitely will be a job creator both in the short and long term.

Work is now scheduled to begin in early 2013. This roadway work along with our award winning airport, are positives that will help Hernando County become a prime location for job-producing industries in the future.

Thanks Gov. Scott!
