Our opinion: Robert Schenck has earned the right to another term.
Despite what his opponent says, state Rep. Robert Schenck has served the residents of the 44th District in an exemplary manner.
He's worked diligently to shrink a bloated state government, last year by more than $6 billion. He's on track with his Republican colleagues to cut the state budget by another $6 billion next year.
Schenck has also stood up against the ridiculous money-grab that local entities and the Legislature approved to erect red-light cameras at intersections across the state - a Big Brother government tactic that is unproven to reduce accidents and only serves to pad government coffers and keep a trained eye on the residents of this state.
Diane Rowden, his Democratic opponent, presided as a county commissioner over the doubling of county government expenditures during her tenure.
She likes to say that she cut taxes, but the reality is just about every property owner paid huge sums more in property taxes than they did before Rowden was elected to the county commission. She was directly responsible for the massive growth in county government that left a bloated bureaucracy for others to fix after voters correctly turned her out of office.
Make no mistake, she would do the same at the state level.
Schenck has conservative values and his record shows that he stands up for those values, both fiscally and morally.
Hernando Today strongly recommends voters reelect Robert Schenck to a second term as their representative in the 44th District - a district in which Rowden only recently rented an apartment so that she could run against Schenck.
