Act does not go unnoticed
Hello, on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, I was part of a group escorting Staff Sgt. David Voiles from Brooksville to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Along the path we passed many vehicles but one stands out.
There was a white vehicle stopped on the shoulder and there was a lone woman wearing a red sweatshirt standing outside her vehicle, placing her hand over her heart displaying a great respect to the fallen soldier, the American flag and the entire procession. Although I do not know who she is, her one small act did not go unnoticed and I would just like to say thank you.

Cost of doing business
After returning from a Hernando County Commission board meeting its no secret why residents are upset with the procedures at these events and the cost of doing business in this county.
After listing to commissioners and their speakers and the forum is opened to public discussion residents are cut off from there opinions and gripes after 3 minutes.
If you give your time to another resident they are cut short by commissioner if they are against something they are if favor of. The whole meeting you have a feeling that the county representatives would really like to be somewhere else and not listening to the residents.
My neighbor and I recently purchased some vacant lots in our area in the Hill and Dale development. He is in the process of putting a home on one of these lots and the county doesn't make anything easy for someone trying to get all the permits to get this done.
Instead of having all these different permits and paperwork in one location it takes most of one day driving all over Spring Hill and Brooksville back and forth between agencies to accomplish these tasks. Would it be asking too much to have them in one place?
Cost is another factor, the utilities department alone, $5,280 for a man to dig a two foot hole in sand with a hand shove to hook up two plastic pipes for water and waste. Granted the impact fees have been eliminated at least for this year, but the cost to residents to put up a viable home that will give the county increased tax revenue is still out of line.
People should be encouraged to build and things should be easily available at a reasonable cost to add taxable properties to the county it's a win, win for everybody. Instead it seems that those in charge want to make this task harder and more expensive which accomplishes the opposite.
